A Brief History of Kenpo - The Law of the Fist in Motion
While
Kenpo traces it’s roots through Japan to China, it really had its
renaissance in Hawaii in the 1900’s. Hawaii was a melting pot for
people from all over the world and therefore a mecca for a variety of
martial arts. It was in this melting pot that Kenpo was reborn. These
pioneers recognized the need to adapt to the modern world so they began
studying other arts, taking what worked from each of them, and making
Kenpo a better and more complete system. It has continued to evolve and
improve with every new generation. Our teacher, Rick Alemany, is a
world renowned tournament champion and has spent nearly four decades
refining his unique style of Kenpo Karate. With Kenpo as his base, he
achieved black belts in other disciplines including Jujitsu, Kajukenbo,
Arnis, Japanese Hard Style, and Wing Chun. Beyond tournaments and
teaching, he has been a fight choreographer for feature films and
television and worked in executive protection and training. His
incredibly vast knowledge in so many styles has made his school a
university for the martial arts. Professor Louis Maldonado been with
Grand Master Alemany since 1991 and continues to teach his unique style.
